"NOBODY'S FIGHTING, BECAUSE NOBODY KNOWS WHAT TO SAVE."
-WINTER IN AMERICA, GIL SCOTT HERON
When I left active duty from the United States Marine Corp I made the District my home and every day since I work hard to nurture advocacy in and serve my community. Although I am originally from South Central Los Angeles, CA, the District is where I discovered the true meaning of community.
I am forever grateful to the District for teaching me that when you foster a collective appreciation for issues and collaborate with your neighbors, elected officials, and the government to overcome grievances, anything is possible. I am the founder and Chair of the Marshall Heights Civic Association, 1st Vice-Chair of the Fletcher-Johnson Taskforce, Co-Chair of the Ward 7 Short Term Housing Facility, and an At-Large Committeeman serving as the Chair of the Voter Outreach and Education Committee of our DC Democratic Party.
I received my Master in Public Policy from American University in 2012, and I currently work in the field of juvenile justice overseeing research, evaluation initiatives, and other state initiatives. I’m a proud husband, hiker enthusiast, and Mariah Carey fanatic. Most of all, I love working with people that are focused on leaving the community in a better place than we inherited it.
As your commissioner, I want to (1) make sure that Fletcher-Johnson has a future we are all proud of; (2) that we all feel safe while shopping at Benco, but also center resources for those that need them in that prime location; and, (3) ensure our community never feels ignored or neglected by those we have put in office to serve us.
